Music and myself, a little introduction…

I love music, let’s say it like that…

My preferences go to the following styles :

- Neo-classical music, from the Hopi Mesa label : Jean-Philippe Goude and René Aubry, and Bruno Coulais.

- Piano and Jazz : Hadouk Trio, Chucho Valdés, Keith Jarrett, Paolo Conte, …

- Contemporary music : Philip Glass, Béla Bartók, Claude Debussy, Arvo Pärt, John Cage, Meredith Monk, …

- Uncommon music like Meredith Monk, Opera Multi Steel,

- Computer generated music from the 80’s and inspirations from that genre, especially from Commodore 64 : Chris Abbot, Bjorn Lynne, Merregnon Team, Jochen Hippel and more…

- French and pop music : Francis Lalanne, William Sheller, Depeche Mode, Enya, …

And many other styles and artists too….

Notice : As most of my friends and family knows, I appreciate quite much contemporary music, an art that is not easy to understand or even to listen according to most people. Atonality, electroacoustics and serialism are a really enjoyment for trained ears and brains, but you may have to start studying musical theory and history before appreciating those styles to their full extent and subtilities. It also may require a lot of attention and a capacity of dissecting music to understand the feelings the author had when creating the material.

This musical genre is not too difficult to find in stores, and even easier on the Internet. If you live in France for example, just walk in a Fnac or Virgin store, look at the classical music section and ask for contemporary music, you’ll be rewarded. But be careful not to choose a CD that could lead you to hate contemporary music forever. This genre has to be learned, step by step, otherwise you could be severely disapointed. As a beginning for non listeners, I usually suggest Jean-Philippe Goude, René Aubry, Claude Debussy and Philip Glass. Those four compositors are really easy to listen to. Then, it may be wise to discover other forms of contemporary music, and I promise you there are plenty of ways to appreciate some artists.
