The Voynich Code

I was looking for a specific information about cryptography this afternoon, and obviously went to the cryptology section of Wikipedia. Then I noticed a name that didn’t remind me anything, so I went on and looked further. It was about a manuscript called « The Voynich Code ». It has nothing to do with the novel and currently controversed movie « The DaVinci Code » that so many people talk about just now, except the strangeness of its contents.

It seems that this manuscript, which origin is unsure, contains a way of writing and language that has still not been deciphered. I went on digging about this, and discovered that an editor who wanted to spread the challenge had just reprinted the manuscript in october 2005, and that it was available as a second hand book at Priceminister… As you already guessed, I’ll receive it in a couple of days to learn more about it !

Apart from the book itself, there has been numerous individuals during the last centuries which tried to solve this mystery. Among those, a french researcher in IT communication and in ethnomethodology (what is this discipline supposed to be ?) which doctorate thesis was to try to figure out this mystery and to decrypt the manuscript. His thesis as well as his resume are available on his website. The funny fact is that this person is also a Chief Security Officer.

I’ve just finished listening (it was an audio book I bought from Audible) Dan Brown’s Angels and Daemons, and have started to read his last book… I hope my new acquisition will be as interesting as those former readings (well, at least the 400 pages thesis which I have printed about the manuscript).
