Music from Japan - Songs of the Aïnou / Ainu
At our local library, I discovered a musical rarity, in the world music section : Music from Japan - songs of the Aïnou.
On the CD, there are traditional songs, in a strange language. The origin of the Aïnou, an animist people close to the shamanism from Hokkaïdo island, is unknown. Their culture is on the verge of extinction. Their songs remain highly physical and sometimes evoke those of the Inuits or the people of Eastern Siberia. Remote from Japanese culture, they still reveal its influence on occasions.
The UNESCO website mentions this CD.
