Deep experiment

Summertime is great to rest a while and dig into the Wikipedia resources. So I’m not going to talk about IT security this time.

About a year ago I was writing about the most extrordinary towers. Today, as I was reviewing the evolution of the Burj Dubai being built, I clicked on some other links and discovered that man can also dig very deep.

There has been several attempts to dig below the earth crust, but unsuccessful. The best way seems to be done by using a boat with a drilling pipe going down to the bottom of the sea (that makes less materials to dig and less resistance). The latest attempt is currently under process, a specially engineered boat fitted with a derrick and scientific instruments has been built and is now cruising to its destination. It is japanese, and should be able to drill about 7km down the earth’s crust.

The official site (in english, with pictures and explanations) is very interesting, indeed.
