Minor annoyances on the blog

(I’m writing this post in english just because I realized I had forgotten my english readers for too much time, and some of them like Darmawan Mappatutu Salihun - who is Indonesian , I made a confusion in a previous post - read my blog too and have to translate my french posts as they can. So I definitely should switch back from time to time to english language for my posts.)

Let’s go back to the subject. Nothing very important, but disturbing enough to prevent me from posting new articles to this blog as frequently as before. Murphy’s law is still always accurate, and slows down some actions like updating the blog.

First, you may have noticed that there are not any pictures on my last articles. Most links I could have done on interesting ideas or else are also missing. The reason for this is quite simple : my update to Wordpress 2.5.1 was not done properly, and the visual editor didn’t work any more. As many people do when there are issues like that, I didn’t want to bother about it since it could take a lot of time to debug, so I continued to post some articles without images and minimal links (I do know HTML code but at this time I’m being lazy). Finally, I decided that I should solve this, and spent at least 2 hours to download a brand new version of WordPress, check everything and dig into support forums where I found out that I wasn’t the only one to have this kind of issue. The Visual Editor of Wordpress somehow appears to disappear (!), for various reasons. So I started to check for the usefulness of all those answers one by one, and it come to nothing, unfortunately.

Finally, I had a stupid idea… a really idiot feeling of having done something wrong when updating my blog from WordPress 2.5.0 to 2.5.1. And I was right, indeed… After comparing the file folders, I just managed to see that the TinyMCE editor folder, and others, were simply missing ! No wonder why my visual editor didn’t show out when I needed it, as the files were not there. Copying them back at the rignt location simply fixed the problem. So stupid !

My french readers also know that I have some issues with my current laptop which nearly broke when falling from the table at last SSTIC event, with unsuspected consequences : it still works, but there is a kind of buzzing sound coming from the motherboard, it takes 15 seconds at boot time to recognize the hard disk and boot on it, and I have several BSOD crashes per day, some of them occuring when I was attempting to post on the blog, so I decided to give my laptop a rest, and my blog too. Needless to say that I nearly have ordered my new laptop, and hope that I’ll receive it before my current one dies totally…

About the minor issues on the blog, I also noticed that the views counter disappeared from the posts. It occured several months ago, long before this 2.5.1 upgrade, but I didn’t have the time to investigate deeper. I just noticed that the Mysql records seem accurate - the hit counters counts !- but it doesn’t show up. Probably a mistake in one or several of the theme files, but I am really weak at understangding all CSS subtelties. If there are any ideas about this, I would appreciate !

Cheers,

Bruno
